Middlesex launch revamped county league.

2008 promises to be an exciting year for clubs in Middlesex with the launch of their first official County League Championship.

The league takes over from the long running and successful George Cairns League.

19 clubs will contest the first season, split into three sections as shown below but it is hoped that the League will quickly expand as interest grows.

The initial divisions are:-

Western Section 1 - Paddington, West Ealing, Hayes, West London, Brentham and Rosedale

Western Section 2 - Ladygate, Century, Wealdstone, Brondesbury, Eastcote and Uxbridge

Eastern Section - Poplar, Broomfield, West Finchley, Bounds Green, Winchmore Hill, Finchley and Selborne.

The overall County Champions will be decided by the three section winners and the eastern division runners up contesting two semi finals and then a final with the winners receiving the George Cairns Trophy together with a Cash Prize.

2008 County President Tony Paulley commented - "this is a fantastic opportunity for the clubs in Middlesex to compete in a structured league, and strive towards the right to call themselves County Champions. The league will also give the County selectors the opportunity to see potential or existing County players on a regular basis in competitive play. Ultimately the leagues introduction can only be good for bowls in Middlesex".
