THREE EXTRACTS FROM BOWLS ENGLAND NEWSLETTER:
1. The importance of clubs registering the names of affiliated members with their county association was highlighted recently. A vigilant County Secretary noticed the names of three competitors in County Competitions whose names did not appear on the submitted list for which no affiliation fee had been paid. In consequence these individuals have been removed from County and National Competitions and will be referred to their club secretary.
2. Clubs should be informed that if they propose to use “movable” ground sheets (those with wooden battens on either side,) these are not permitted to be used in National Competitions and Championships as they contravene the Laws of the Sport (Law 19.1(5) – Placing the Mat. If such ground sheets are to be used in domestic play, club insurance policies should be checked as these may violate any accident liability claims due to tripping on these ‘unauthorised ground sheets’. Acceptable ground sheets are those that are securely fastened in a permanent position and recognised by the Laws of the Sport.
3. BE has been required to write an Equity Policy (as mandatory for all sports) and addresses the issues of equality for all members. This has been submitted to Sport England and approved by the Board for ratification at the EGM. The policy will be circulated well in advance of this meeting. This document highlights the requirement by all of us to make provision for those involved in full time employment and full time education. County Associations will need to be aware of the exposure to any potential legal challenge made by those who may deem to be victimised through week day afternoon play. Anyone wishing to view a copy of the Equity Policy in advance of the EGM circulation papers, please do not hesitate to contact me. It is currently available only by email. |
