MIDDLESEX WHITEWASH SORRY SUSSEX

Middlesex CBA kept alive their hopes of progressing in this seasons Middleton Cup by completely outplaying and ultimately thrashing Sussex CBA in the match played at Worthing Pavilion BC on Saturday.

Team Manager Lindsay Warner, his selectors and County President Tony Paulley could not hide their delight at the end of one of Middlesex's most comprehensive displays for a long time.

Not only was the margin of victory, 155 shots to 101, impressive but the 22 points gained mean Middlesex are only 11 points behind Kent CBA, who beat Bucks CBA 122 shots to 112 (16 points 6), with both sides having one game left to play, Middlesex CBA at home to Surrey CBA and Kent CBA away to Sussex CBA both on July 5th.

The match, played under a pleasant sun was contested on a very quick green and clearly this inspired Middlesex as they opened up a 33 shots to 24 lead at 5 ends. The game was almost over as a contest at 10 ends with Middlesex 31 shots in front, 76 shots to 45 and by  the 15th  it was threatening to get embarrassing for Sussex CBA as Middlesex CBA racked up 46 shots to lead by 60  shots (122 shots to 62). Either Middlesex CBA eased off or Sussex CBA tried to save face but the gap remained fairly even until the end.

Top rink for Middlesex was Nick Edwards (Pymmes Park), Thomas Brooks (Poplar), Simon Evans (City of London) and Ron LeLeux (Uxbridge) who won 32 shots to 12. The other winning rinks and successful players were as follows:-

Ray Fortune (Poplar), David Steele (Wealdstone), Lee Barber (Broomfield) and Perry Cook (Poplar) who won 28 shots to 15

David Pitt (Masonian), Peter Huggett (B.A. Concorde), Andy Leeks (City of London) and Phil Sutcliffe (Brentham) who won 25 shots to 15

Roger Watkinson (Bush Hill Park), Willy Woods (Uxbridge), Andrew Pearce (Poplar) and Paul Cater (West Ealing) who won 27  shots to 19

Kevin Ward (Holtwhites), Chris Harris (Uxbridge), Jamie Gibbs and Norman Worley (Both Paddington) who won 22 shots to 17.

Andy Dempster (Ladygate), Andy Knott (Masonian), Andy Law (Pymmes Park) and Tony "Andy" Waller (Ladygate) who won 21 shots to 18

After the Match Andy Leekes was presented with his Middleton Cup Flash.

To qualify Middlesex now need to beat Surrey and hope Sussex can regain some pride and beat Kent.
