MIDDX GO NAP IN LEAGUE WITH A WIN OVER SUSSEX
Played 2 Won 2.
Looks good and sounds good doesn't it! What a difference a season makes, last year Middx CBA only amassed 41 points through out their six match campaign. This season after only 2 games they already have 38.
Buoyed by their opening victory over Surrey, the Middlesex players went into the match against Sussex CBA in a confident mood, as the match progressed they again demonstrated that they have, perhaps, started to develop a more resilient streak.
The match , played at the Preston Club, was contested under a glorious sun with the players only being cooled by a stiff breeze. Middlesex CBA showed their confidence by opening up a 37-29 lead at 5 ends. That lead was stretched to 6 shots at 10 ends (64-58) but then Sussex launched a fight back to lead 93-84 at 15 ends. Standing firm Middlesex narrowed the gap to 4 (104-108) at 18 ends at which point 3 high scoring ends across the green seemingly turned the game Middlesex's way. Ron Le Leux's rink picked up a 6 on their final end, Tony Waller's rink scored a five on their 20th and at the other end of the green Roger Butler's rink trumped them both by picking up a 7. At the same time Perry Cook and Paul Caters’ rinks were only allowing their opposition to score 1 shot each over their respective last 6 ends leaving the final result 131-124 in Middlesex's favour.
As narrow as the shots margin might have been victory on 5 of the rinks meant that the points margin was a convincing 20-2 in Middlesex's favour.
Top rink for Middx was David Pitt (Masonian), David Crudington (Bush Hill Park), Peter Huggett (B.A. Concorde) and Ron Le Leux (Uxbridge) who won 27-19. The other skips that had winning rinks were Roger Butler (22-20), Paul Cater (25-22), Tony Waller (23-17) and Perry Cook (19-18).
After the match the players enjoyed the usual superb meal at the Preston Club and President Tony Paulley had the pleasure of presenting fellow Harrow BC member 17 year old Richard Southgate with his full County Badge and Home Counties League Flash.
Team Manager Lindsay Warner, away with the County Vice Presidents was said to be delighted when news of the win filtered through. Speaking after the game Tony Paulley said " Congratulations to all the players on an excellent win, it’s great to see Middlesex starting to develop something of a winning streak”.
The home Counties League now takes a break until the 28th June when the next match will be at Iver Heath against Buckinghamshire CBA.
Next Middx embark on their Middleton Cup campaign where they start by entering the lions den and a trip to Canterbury to face Kent CBA.
