MIDDLESEX CBA U 25’s v SUSSEX CBA U 25’s
Despite terrible playing conditions, playing against the current U25 HCL Champions who has the current England U25 Champion as well as an England Trialist in their ranks. The Middlesex U25 team recorded a magnificent victory by 5 shots 40 shots to 35, and qualified for the regional finals on the 15th June at the Chesham BC, Buckinghamshire. Your support would be greatly appreciated
L ( Chunky) Barber, A Pearce P Wilsher and R (Smiler) Southgate managed a very creditable victory against their Sussex opponents by 22 shots to17, this despite being 7 shots down after the first 5 ends, the team showed very good temperament and character. After 10 ends they were 12 shots to 10 up. After this they never lost the lead and held on to win by 5 shots.
The other rink of J Gibbs, C Hill, A Richardson and N Edwards drew 18 all. They got of to a flying start and were 6 shots up after 5 ends, however their fortunes changed on the 8th end, when holding 5 the Sussex Skip played a running wood and made 4 shots, so instead of being 13 shots to 4 up it became 8 shots all. This seemed to galvanise the Sussex lads and after 16 ends the Middlesex rink were 6 shots down, this is when, in comparison to the previous round when the same rink lost the last 5 ends, the team spirit of Middlesex shone through and they won 4 of the last 5 ends, it was only the last wood of the Sussex skip that denied the lads what would have been an excellent victory.
All in all an excellent team performance, not only from the 8 players but from the reserves C. Law. J. Head and A. Tanner who although not playing gave the lads plenty of encouragement and support.
Next game HCL U25 versus Buckinghamshire CBA at Iver Heath BC, on 1st June, starting at 10.00am.
