MIDDLESEX CBA UNDER 25’s v KENT CBA UNDER 25’s

A strange and very long day at Bounds Green, with Kent having 2 players stuck in traffic, after discussion between the team managers it was decided to wait rather than Middlesex claim the game, and as per league rules earn the 8 points that were on offer.

This proved (Thankfully) to be the correct decision as the lads managed to beat Kent for the 1st time in this competition and win on 2 rinks (A Richardson and A Pearce). Winning overall 89 shots to 74  (10 points to 4)

Rink Scores.

R Southgate. C Law. J Head. L Barber.                   21 shots to 24

G Adams. D Harris. N Edwards. A Richardson       32 shots to 12

P Reynolds. C Fortune. C Hill. J Gibbs                    15 shots to 24

A Tanner.  Wilsher.  Vickers. A Pearce                   21 shots to 14

If you had said before the game that Middlesex were going to win 10 points to 4 they would have taken it, so it was a good result, slightly marred by the L Barber rink, who in fairness had to hang around whilst waiting for the 2 Kent players. Dropping 6 shots on the last end and losing by 3 shots when they had led all the way. Middlesex were looking good for 12 points.

J Gibbs long run of 14 unbeaten matches spread over 3 years, most of them with C Fortune at 2, unluckily came to end on a very tricky green and some very bad luck, just a couple of examples of the bad luck on the 19th end when only 4 down and holding 5, C Hill in attempting to play a covering back wood clipped a wide wood in for 2nd which could not be removed and on the 20th end when only 3 down Jamie, in dragging the jack back for a possible 3 or 4 shots, the jack hit a back wood and bounced back amongst the Kent woods costing Middlesex 6 shots.

The two winning rinks of A Richardson and A Pearce never looked in trouble and were always in control with all players on both rinks playing some excellent shots at important times. The 2 front ends of  A Tanner, P Wilsher and G Adams, D Harris both dominated their counterparts from Kent enabling both 3's N Edwards and S Vickers and the skips to play shots with confidence.

It was the first time in a long time that the lads did not finish as well as they have been doing, dropping 15 shots over the last 6 ends, hopefully it is not down to complacency setting in, this is not the time of the season for complacency, we still have a very important game against Surrey CBA on the 10th August at Parsons Green, and the EBA Double Rink at Worthing on the 17th August , with Essex CBA the opponents in the morning, and if successful either Derbyshire CBA or Dorset CBA in the afternoon.

ALL SUPPORT WOULD BE APPRECIATED ON ALL OF THE ABOVE GAMES
