MIDDLESEX CBA UNDER 25’s v SUSSEX CBA UNDER 25’s
Despite the long journey on Sunday to play Sussex U25's on a very tricky and fast Worthing Pavilion green against a team only 3 points behind Middlesex in the league, the lads scored a resounding victory 87 shots to 68 (12 points to 2), and remain unbeaten after 3 league games with 2 games to go, Kent on the 13th July at Bounds Green and Surrey on the 10th August at Parsons Green.
As you can see from the above, the scores were all square after 5 ends and despite the A Pearce rink being down by 14 shots after 10ends. Middlesex were 13 shots to the good, this increased to 22 shots after 15 ends, and despite a few scares, the team, as in the past seemed to have mastered the art of closing a game out.
J Gibbs playing with a new 2 and 3 in this game managed to maintain his unbeaten run , making it 14 on the trot the turning point in his game was between the 6th and 16 ends when his rink picked up 15 shots against 5.
L Barber's rink was the highest winning and as with Jamie's rink he to did most of the damage between the 6 and 16 ends picking up 16 shots to 7.
A Richardson's rink got of too a good start and were 17 shots to 2 up after 13 ends, over the next 7 ends they could not pick up a shot despite playing some very good bowls, it came to the last end with the score 17 all, Middlesex were holding shot from Glen Adams first wood until the Sussex skip took it out with his first wood. Adam then drew the shot which the Sussex skip could not displace and Middlesex earned themselves another very important 2 points.
A word of praise for the team spirit and never say die attitude of the A Pearce rink, who despite being 14 shots down after 10 ends kept there heads, and with the encouragement of the other rinks were only 4 down after 20 ends and if it had not been for the Sussex skip drawing 3rd wood with the last bowl of the game, with Middlesex holding 5 shots the rink would have completed wins on all four rinks.
Thanks once again to all the parents for getting the lads to the venue and for all their support.
