2009 FRIENDLY SEASON
STATISTICAL REVIEW Ok, eyes down for a statistical review of the 2009 Inter County Friendly Season.
During the season 21 games were played resulting in 10 Middx victories and 11 defeats. Middx did however win on more rinks than their oppostion, 65 to 61, and score more shots 2481 to 2462. So incredibly, if you allow for a few dead ends roughly 21500 woods were delivered and the seasons shot difference was 19.
Top winning margin in a match was 59 against Cambridgeshire CBA, biggest loss was against Derbyshire CBA by 51. In an indivdual rink the biggest win honour goes to Graham Kellett (Cambridge Park / Senior Deputy), Alan Cushnir (Woodcock Park), Tony Howard (Wealdstone) and Kenny Allen (Broomfield) who contributed a winning margin of 24 in the thumping of Cambridgeshire already mentioned. Biggest loss belonged to rink 4 against Gloucestershire CBA at Ladygate who lost by 32, you know who you are!!
135 players (5 up on 2008), including 1 guest loaned to us by Wiltshire, represented the County in friendlies meaning on average everyone played 3.7 games. 2 played their first game, 4 played thier 2nd game, one of whom won a top rink prize (Ron Smith, Mill Hill take a bow), 9 players received a Colts Badge and 6 achieved enough games to receive their full badge. Lets hope we see all of those 21 again next season plus many more.
OFFICER SUPPORT
As always Middx's Current officers continued to show the extent of their support for the Associations in matches. Eric Prior (Match Secretary) played in all 21 games, fantastic commitment and he was in a winning rink in 14 of them (66.6%). Graham Kellett played 20, being in a winning rink 8 times. Brian Elbourne (Harrow / Junior Deputy) played 13, with 8 winnng rinks, Ron Petch (Patron) also played 13, with 7 winning rinks and finally David Todd (Treasurer) played 12, prevailing 5 times. A special mention should also go to President Roy Dobson (Brondesbury) who despite well publicised health issues never complained, was always present and did, much to his joy, manage to play in 8 friendlies.
OTHERS
The following played in over 50% of the friendly games. Andy Knott (Masonian) again led the way with 15 appearances (9 winning rinks), Edward Halling (Wealdstone / Past President) played 11 (7 winning rinks), Peter Hicks (Edmonton) also played 11 (5 winning rinks) a record match by Tony Paulley (Immediate Past Presdident / Harrow).
COUNTY SUCCESS
Obviously Eric Prior played in all 10 County wins, Peter Hicks came next playing in 7 victories. As a percentage of games played, using a minimum qualification of 4 games played, DAVID CRUDINGTON (Bush Hill Park) was the Counties star man for 2009. Not only did the County win every time he played (5 games) but he contributed fully by playing in a winning rink every time as well. The only blot, no top rink prizes! Alex Gibson (Brentham) played 4 times with the County winning every time, Alex however was not so successful on a perosnal level. Next came Eric Pelling who played in 6 County wins during his 7 appearances for the season (85%).
PERSONAL SUCCESS
That man Eric Prior played in 14 winning rinks, Andy Knott 9, Graham Kellett and Brian Elbourne 8. As a percentage of games played, again using 4 as a minimum requirement, David Crudington led the way with his outstanding 100% success rate. Malcom Cinna (Assistant Secretary / Stanmore) came next with 85%, 6 wins from 7 games, the County however only won one of these 7! Lyndsey Warner (Past President / Strawberry Hill) 75%, 6 wins from 8 came next, with Dennis Boyd (Hampton) and Laurie Jay (Bush Hill Park) both had 71% winning records, 5 from 7. Well done to all, we know who to play with next season. A special mention here for Roy Cameron who had a 66% success rate, 4 wins from 6 games but finished the season undefeated by playing in 2 drawn rinks. That in itself was some achievement as Middx only had 6 drawn rinks all season.
TOP RINK
Eric Prior proved not only does he work unbelievably hard he can play as well, leading the way with 5 top rink prizes (23% of games played). Maclom Cinna (57%) and Tony Paulley (36 %) both won 4, 4 players won 3. Percentage wise 6 players actually got top rink in every game they played but none of them played 4 games. The best here was David Southey (Cambridge Park) who got 3 top rinks from 5 appearances (60%).
THEIR HEARTS IN THE RIGHT PLACE
For every winner there has to be a loser and some players had results they would rather forget. I can report however that no one played in 4 games or more without the County winning at least 1 of them. Indivdually 1 player played 4 games and was not on a winning rink once and one player played 9 games, only being on a winning rink once, Middx did however win 6 times when he appeared so he played in 60% of Middx's wins.
