FRIENDLY WINNING STREAK EXTENDED TO 5
There’s currently no stopping the Counties friendly squad, as they racked up another week of back to back victories, extending their winning run to a seasons best 5 matches in the process.
Firstly on a very wet Tuesday afternoon the players gathered at Cambridge Park for the match against Kent CBA. Cambridge Park’s green has apparently not been in the best of condition this year, culminating in the Presidents sad decision to move the competition finals from his home club. Neither the green nor the weather were going to stop Middlesex however.
With Middlesex comfortably ahead on 4 rinks both Presidents agreed to end the game at 18 ends with Middlesex 118-81 in front.
3 Middlesex skips commented that the decision cost them! David Todd assured everyone that his rink was going to pull back their 4 shot deficit and win, Senior Glass Winner, sorry Senior Deputy President, Brian Elbourne felt that his four would have sneaked top rink and Ken Wilson with 8 wins out of 8 for the County in 2010 was denied the opportunity of a 9th as the premature end left him stranded 1 shot behind!!
Top rink and clearly happy to stop was Graham Kellet (Cambridge Park), Roy Dodson (Brondesbury), David Vine (Wealdstone) and Andy Knott (Masonians) who won 25-10. This was Graham’s 5th top rink of the season and Roy’s 4th so the front end of the rink clearly carried a potent threat.
2 days later and the side gathered at Bush Hill Park for the fixture against Suffolk CBA.
With the weather threatening there was a danger the players could be in for a second wet afternoon of the week but apart from a brief bit of drizzle the threatening clouds held off until after the game when the heavens did open.
For the record the County again won on 4 rinks, the inclusion of 7 members of the host club surely helping, as Middlesex romped home 144-96!
Top rink was David Barnicoat (Bush Hill Park), Peter Leete (Bounds Green), Barry Saunders (Cockfosters) and Tony Waller (Ladygate) who put their opposition to the sword by 38-10. David currently seems to be something of a lucky charm for the County with the friendly side having been victorious in every game he has played in.
Middlesex’s friendly players now take a break to allow for the National Championships at Worthing, and the Counties best wishes go to all those involved.
When they resume, with a winning season guaranteed, they will be looking to finish with a flourish in their final 2 games. The first of these on August 31st is the long trip to Attleborough Connaught Bowls Club for the game against Norfolk CBA, a fixture in which the away side has won in each of the last 3 seasons.
