U 25’s Middlesex CBA 76 U 25’s Essex CBA 53
On a very hot day and played on a very good green at Wanstead Central BC the Middlesex lads once again played very well and deservedly won by 23 shots. The team spirit throughout the game was excellent, long may it continue, in what will be a very hard and competitive Junior HCL campaign ahead.
Most of the counties have now appointed new team managers and having spoken to a few of them, they are all keen to take our U25 title away from us. It would appear we are the team to beat this year.
Back to the game, both teams were short of a player so one rink played triples, may I take this opportunity to wish Lee Barber well and hope he gets well soon., and a special thanks to Dan Harris and Chris Cleaver who both turned out for us at very short notice and both played very well considering their lack of green time this year.
After 5 ends Middlesex had their noses in front by 5 shots winning on 2 rinks, losing on 2. By 10 ends the lead increased too 8 shots, still with 2 winning and 2 losing rinks. Over the next 5 ends the lads bowled extremely well with some excellent draw bowls, at last my message of drawing to save instead of firing seems to be getting through (it’s only taken 4 years). Seriously it was really pleasing to watch some of the draw bowls being played rather than the up and at it attitude that we sometimes seem to get drawn in too, by 15 ends the lead was 18 shots with only one rink losing and that was only by 1 shot .
As in the past the last 5 ends seem to bring the best out of the lads and the lead was extended to 23 shots.
Rink Scores J. Gibbs. T. Rose. R. Reynolds. 22--13 C. Cleaver. A. Tanner. G. Peisley. R. Card. 15--11 A. Richardson. R. Southgate. B. Casey. D. Harris. 19--07 N. Edwards. M. Larman. P. Barber. G. Adams. 20--22
Next Sunday is probably our hardest game of the year, away to Sussex at Popes Mead B.C. Crawley RH11 7LD. In the Bowls England Double Rink.
Any support would be most welcome.
