SEASONS BEST AS CAMBRIDGESHIRE CRUSHED

Bottisham Bowls Club in Cambridgeshire was the venue as Middlesex went shots barmy in a one sided rampage on Wednesday.

The 69 shot winning margin was not only the biggest of the season but also comfortably the biggest recorded in the 4 years I’ve been sending in reports.

It was also only the second occasion I can remember the friendly side winning on all six rinks.

One rink really hammered home their advantage winning 30 shots to 4 and it was skipped by Middlesex’s new glass hoarder Brian Elbourn (Harrow / S.D.P.)! He was able assisted by the Cambridge Park trio of President Graham Kellet, Maurice Byron and Andrew Taylor.

With this stunning win behind them Middlesex’s friendly squad will be filled with confidence as they head into 2 tough road trips.

Firstly on Sunday they head up to Long Eaton Bowls Club in Derbyshire. Middlesex have not beaten Derbyshire since 2007 and last year suffered a crushing 50 shot defeat of their own in the game played at Brondesbury BC.

Then on Wednesday it is the longest trip of the season when Middlesex trek all the way down to Somerset and the picturesque sounding Isle of Wedmore BC. Home advantage seems to hold sway in this fixture with victories for Middlesex in 2007 and 2009 but a defeat in Bath in 2008. This fixture should, we believe, also mark the 600th occasion Patron Ron Petch has represented the County. Truly remarkable

With 6 games to go this season and a currently even record of won 8 lost 8 can Middlesex push on and record a winning season, full reports later next week
