NORFOLK END MIDDLESEX STREAK AT 5
With the National Championships and the August Bank Holiday safely out of the way the County Friendly Squad again gathered at the roadside for the long trip up to the Attleborough Connaught Bowling Club and the game against Norfolk CBA.
Prior to the break the side had been on a hot streak winning 5 games on the trot but the break clearly did not agree with the side as they slipped to a 113-120 defeat despite winning on 3 rinks. This result also reversed the recent trend of the away side winning this fixture.
Top rink on the day was Steve Bland (Wealdstone), Derek Coleman (Ashford), David Steele (Wealdstone) and Patron Ron Petch (Acton Park) who won 26-14. It’s been a good friendly season to date for Steve who has played 8 games, being on a winning rink 7 times, in 3 of those he was in the top winning rink and the County have won 5 of those fixtures. A lucky omen. Surrey have been warned!
Middlesex now take a short break for the President’s tour before gathering for the last friendly of the season at Brentham Bowls Club when we host Surrey CBA. Middlesex won the corresponding fixture in 2009 but when the sides met at Brentham in 2008 Surrey won by 41 shots!
Can Middlesex end their winning friendly season on a high? |
