MIDDLESEX RUPTURE HERTFORDSHIRE HOPES IN TROPHY
Middlesex’s friendly squad got their hands on some “silverware” this week when they defeated Hertfordshire CBA to regain the Toucan Trophy, more commonly known as the “ruptured duck”.
In a tight battle played at Winchmore Hill BC, Middlesex managed to prevail on 3 rinks with a further one drawn enabling them to edge home 112-107.
Top rink for Middlesex was Mike Rosenthal, Maurice Tate and skip Brian Elbourn (all from Harrow) and interloper David Todd from Sunbury BC., who won by 9, 26-17.
For the second time in a fortnight Brian’s rink attained top rink on ends won from the rink of David Barnicoat (Bush Hill Park), Roy Dodson (Brondesbury), Peter Hicks (Edmonton) and Ken Allen (Broomfield) who won 27-18. Continuing the spurious links theme Roy Dodson was also in the rink previously denied top rink by Brian on ends won at Staines recently!!
It was a double cause for celebration for Maurice Tate who also received his Colts badge from President Graham Kellet.
Next week Middlesex have 2 friendlies. Firstly on Monday 19th they board the coach for the journey west to Suffolk Square BC in Gloucestershire, a County who have won the last 2 friendlies between the sides.
Then on Wednesday, in a fixture not played in 2009, we host Huntingdonshire CBA at Wealdstone BC, when Middlesex last hosted this fixture in 2007 we recorded a 60 shot win, a repeat would not go amiss!.
