BEDS OVERTURNED, KENT CENTURIONS HALTED.

It was another good week for the Middlesex Friendly Squad as they extended their winning sequence to 5, the first 4 games this season and the last of 2010.

Firstly on Tuesday Middlesex welcomed Bedfordshire CBA to Broomfield Bowls Club. It had been mentioned in advance that home advantage seemed to be the deciding factor in this fixture and so it proved again.

4 winning rinks for Middlesex, two by over a dozen shots, saw Middlesex home by 133 shots to 108.

Top rink for Middlesex was Jack Sadie (Harrow), James Corbett (G.P.C.), Peter Hicks (Edmonton) and Ernie Rudston (Bush Hill Park) who won 29-14.

Rumours of a senior Bush Hill Park player bowling a wrong bias during the trial ends were unconfirmed at the time of writing!

After the match President Brian Elbourn had the pleasure of presenting Kevin Birch (Poplar) and Peter Taber (Grovelands) with their badges. Pino Paras, of Bush Hill Park, received his Colts badge and Wally Rose of the Presidents Club Harrow played his second game.

Two days later and the selected players gathered at Bush Hill Park Bowls Club for a specially arranged friendly against Kent CBA to mark both sides Centenaries.

The talk prior to the game centred on the weather, with those bowlers from West of London talking of the 2 hours welcomed rain the previous evening and those from South of London and Kent complaining they had not had any!

Under the afternoons pleasant sun both sides exchanged centenary gifts before getting down to the business at hand.

Middlesex had fielded a fairly strong side for a friendly, with 7 members of the host club represented, and again Middlesex prevailed on 4 rinks to win 117-109.

Top rink on this occasion was Steve Bland (Wealdstone), Roy Dodson (Brondesbury), David Crudgington (Bush Hill Park) and Tony Waller (Ladygate) who won 23-8.

After the game, to mark the special nature of the occasion, Bush Hill Park members had laid on an excellent 3 course meal for which they should be congratulated.

Next up for Middlesex, as they look to continue their winning start is a match against something of a bogey side Leicestershire CBA. To be played at Finchley BC on Monday 23rd Leicestershire have won this fixture for at least the last 4 years. Can Middlesex break this run and march on?
