BY GEEVES, IT’S THE PITTS FOR DEAR OXFORDSHIRE AS MIDDX WIN

Middlesex travelled to Oxford City and County for their 6th and final Home Counties League game of 2011 to play Oxfordshire CBA.

Middlesex have endured a mixed campaign with comfortable wins against Buckinghamshire and Sussex but also heavy losses to Kent and Berkshire plus handing local rivals Surrey their only win this campaign to date.

So with Kent already having been crowned League Champions neither side had, arguably, anything tangible other than pride to play for.

Middlesex though seemed determined to finish the season on a high note and got off to a good start, leading 27-23 at 5 ends. Middlesex then enjoyed a purple patch and shot off to lead 64-38 at 10 ends.

Middlesex then held firm to retain a comfortable lead and ultimately cruise home 121-101 winners. Victory on 4 rinks meant that they picked up 18 points to Oxfords 4 to finish the campaign solidly in mid table.

Top rink for Middlesex was David Pitt (Masonians), John Geeves and Gary Dear (Uxbridge) and Ron LeLeux (West Ealing) who won 29-10.

After the match President Brian Elbourne presented Rod Smith (Holtwhites), Kevin Hill (Hendon) and John Geeves (Uxbridge) with their Home Counties League Flashes.

Billy Short (North London) received his colts badge for playing his first game and Kevin Hill received his full County Badge.
