EXECUTIVE SET EXAMPLE BUT COUNTY STILL LOSE

Middlesex hosted Kent CBA at West Ealing Bowls Club on Saturday in their 5th Home Counties League game of the season looking to bounce back from their drubbing at Berkshire 2 weeks previously.

Various issues meant that both Counties fielded weaker than planned sides with Middlesex only able to field 6 of the 8 Middleton Cup players they were allowed.

Kent for their part went into the game knowing that 6 points would secure them their second successive Home Counties League title.

On a gloriously sunny afternoon, not something I have reported very often this season it was clear from early on which side was going to achieve their aim for the day.

At the end Middlesex, despite a mid game rally, had succumbed to their 3rd defeat of the campaign, this time by 94-111 (2-20) as Kent easily secured the points they needed to win the league title.

Top rink for Middlesex, indeed the only winning rink, made yours truly eat large slices of humble pie at the post match meal for some light hearted ribbing they had been given prior to the match starting.

The mighty four who bowled superbly outclassing their opposition were Richard Southgate (Harrow), Senior Deputy President and County Treasurer David Todd of Sunbury, Match Secretary Eric Prior of Mill Hill and President Brian Elbourn of Harrow who magnificently won 24-12.

There have I grovelled enough?!

Middlesex’s final Home Counties game of 2011 sees the side make the journey up the M40 to face Oxfordshire CBA at Oxford City and County. Middlesex have only won 3 of the last 10 League games against Oxford but positively, they have all come away including victories at the City and County in 2005 and 2001, can Middlesex finish the league season on a high?
